Star Pride

A market visit with the ship's chef can tell you more about Star Pride than a list of amenities. On selected sailings, guests accompany the culinary team into local markets, encountering seafood, produce, spices and regional specialties before returning aboard. It is a small experience, but one that captures Windstar's larger philosophy: the destination should continue influencing life on the yacht after the gangway comes up.

Only 312 guests travel aboard Star Pride, an all-suite vessel that underwent a major lengthening and transformation during Windstar's Star Plus project. The rebuilt yacht gained new restaurants, additional suites, upgraded public rooms and improved outdoor areas while preserving a passenger count small enough to remain genuinely intimate.

Its suites begin around 277 square feet, making the entry-level experience unusually spacious. Larger categories provide separate sleeping and living areas, while the overall accommodation style leans toward comfortable residential space rather than elaborate theatrical design.

Depending on the season, Star Pride can move through the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and other destination-rich regions. Smaller ports become particularly important, because the yacht can pair celebrated cities with coastal communities that would struggle to accommodate a vessel carrying several thousand passengers.

The World Spa by Windstar offers treatments and wellness facilities after a long day ashore, while the fitness center, pool and outdoor decks provide less structured alternatives. There is little pressure to spend the entire day participating in organized shipboard programming.

Evenings often begin with food rather than a production show. Amphora, Cuadro 44, Star Grill and Candles give guests several different dining environments, with specialty restaurants included in the cruise fare. Windstar's signature deck barbecue can occasionally turn dinner into one of the most social events of the voyage, complete with an extensive outdoor spread and crew entertainment.

The Marina provides another type of social space entirely. In suitable anchorages, the stern platform becomes direct access to the water for complimentary watersports. On the right itinerary, it creates the feeling that guests are traveling aboard a private yacht rather than simply observing the coastline from a cruise ship.

The atmosphere aboard Windstar Cruises is upscale but deliberately casual. Formal nights are absent, and open-bridge access may allow guests to speak with officers and observe navigation when conditions permit. Alcohol, Wi-Fi and gratuities can be bundled through the All-In package rather than automatically appearing in every base fare.

Star Pride is particularly convincing for travelers who consider the ship a means of getting somewhere interesting rather than the destination itself. Spacious suites and thoughtful restaurants make returning aboard pleasurable, but its greatest luxury is still the ability to carry a few hundred guests into places where larger ships simply do not fit.
