Silver Wind

Silver Wind carries the elegance of a classic Silversea ship into places where conventional luxury vessels cannot easily follow. Built in 1995 and transformed into an ice-class expedition ship during a major 2021 refurbishment, she welcomes just 274 guests. The result is an intimate vessel that combines spacious suites, polished service, and fine dining with the technical capabilities needed for remote exploration.

The ship’s expedition character becomes most apparent when the day begins. A fleet of 24 Zodiac boats allows guests to approach isolated coastlines, wildlife-rich shores, and landing sites beyond the reach of traditional cruise tenders. Silver Wind offers an approximate Zodiac-to-guest ratio of 1:11, helping excursion groups move ashore efficiently while maintaining a more personal experience.

Before and after each outing, the Mud Room provides a dedicated place to change, clean expedition boots, and store outdoor equipment. The Explorer Lounge hosts briefings, lectures, and evening recaps led by the expedition team, while the Photo Studio gives guests space to edit, print, and improve images captured throughout the journey. These practical spaces were added as part of Silver Wind’s conversion from a traditional luxury ship into a dedicated expedition vessel.

Back onboard, the atmosphere quickly returns to understated comfort. The Observation Library overlooks the sea through broad windows, the Panorama Lounge pairs shifting scenery with cocktails and piano music, and the heated pool provides a place to relax even when the surrounding climate turns cooler. The spa, fitness center, Dolce Vita lounge, and Show Lounge offer additional ways to spend quieter hours between expeditions.

Dining remains distinctly Silversea. The Restaurant blends familiar favorites with dishes influenced by the voyage, while La Terrazza transitions from relaxed daytime dining to handmade pasta, seafood, and Italian wines in the evening. La Dame presents refined French cuisine, and The Grill serves salads, seafood, and steaks beside the pool.

Every accommodation is an ocean-view suite with dedicated butler service. Vista Suites frame the landscape through large picture windows, while Classic and Deluxe Veranda Suites add furnished private balconies. Medallion, Silver, Royal, Grand, and Owner’s Suites provide increasingly generous living areas for longer journeys and private relaxation.

Silver Wind is particularly at home in Antarctica and the wider Polar Regions, where her strengthened hull, expedition equipment, and knowledgeable team make it possible to explore ice-filled channels and remote shores. A day may bring a Zodiac cruise beneath sculpted ice, a landing near a penguin colony, or a guided walk across a rarely visited landscape before returning to warm surroundings and an elegant dinner onboard. Silver Wind’s appeal lies in this seamless movement between two worlds: adventurous days shaped by wildlife and wilderness, followed by evenings of spacious comfort, attentive service, and intimate dining.
